Black ink and gum tempera are applied in three dense rectangular blocks across a long, horizontal palm leaf. Two circular holes punctuate the tan surface, separating the script. Tightly packed horizontal rows of characters contrast with the leaf's smooth texture and rounded ends. This rhythmic composition balances the dark, systematic blocks of writing with the warm, textured expanse of the natural material, where ink occasionally thins against the grain.
