Description

Little is known today about V. Germain, the artist who produced this drawing. Here, he focused on an interior scene with exacting detail, using a small group of figures at the sheet’s center to emphasize the massive scale of the castle where they have gathered.
A horizontally oriented, detailed pen and ink and watercolor drawing in rich blues, golds, and reds depicts a cluttered, ornate room. Left, a towering blue-tiled fireplace sits beside a bed with heavy crimson curtains. Center, four figures sit around a table beneath a metal chandelier. To the right, a large wooden cabinet and a tall window border a patterned floor, beneath a ceiling of decorated blue and gold beams.
