Description

This drawing, presumably a study for a painted portrait, depicts a seated woman, dressed in a long gown and fashionable hat. Her casual pose, with one hand placed nonchalantly on her knee, her right elbow resting on the back of a chair, and a gaze unfocused on something outside the scene, gives the image an intimate informality.
A vertically oriented chalk drawing on brown paper depicts a woman with light skin tone seated in a chair, looking toward us. Her right arm hooks over the chair's back, and her left hand rests in her lap. She wears a high-waisted dress and a wide-brimmed hat adorned with a bow. White chalk highlights catch the deep folds of fabric and brighten her face, contrasting with the dark chalk lines.
