Did You Know?

Clusters of grapes can represent both abundant wealth and numerous offspring.
A hanging scroll in black and gray ink strokes depicts a cascading grapevine. Large leaves and dark grape clusters rendered in varying washes fill the composition. Thin, swirling tendrils and thicker stems connect the elements against a cream-colored ground. Five columns of Chinese calligraphy and four red stamps appear on the left (see "Inscriptions"). The monochromatic ink work emphasizes the downward movement of the vines.
