A vertically oriented hanging scroll depicts a mountainous landscape in muted gray ink washes. Soft, blurred washes suggest thick mist between undulating peaks, where a pale orb sits near a line of flying birds. Dense clusters of dark brushstrokes convey foliage surrounding several small buildings. Figures occupy boats on a river winding toward the foreground. Spindly trees and black dashes of vegetation add detail to the hazy scene, casting it in soft shadows.
