Did You Know?

This drawing is a preparatory sketch for United States currency, proposed during President Taft's administration.
A vertically oriented graphite drawing on tan paper depicts a woman with light skin tones seated facing left. She wears a wreath of grain and heavy, draped drapery. Her right arm extends forward while her left hand rests on a large cornucopia overflowing with fruit in the foreground. Fine hatching creates shadows across the fabric and harvest. Sparse lines outline her face and hair, colored by the paper. A signature appears to our right.
