Did You Know?

Kegutsu, or fur shoes, like the ones worn by Takauji were often made of bear fur.
A vertically oriented ink and color painting on paper depicts Ashikaga Takauji, a man with light skin tone seated facing our right. He wears layered armor with green, red, and gold patterns and a helmet with hornlike protrusions. He holds a long polearm vertically in his right hand, a quiver of arrows on his back. Japanese calligraphy and faint script appear on our left. The aged, buff-colored paper is marked with visible stains.
