Three monograms around the border of the reverse identify officials responsible for producing this coin.

Description

Although Macedon was conquered by Rome in 168 BC, its mints continued to produce Hellenistic-style coinage. The obverse of this coin shows Artemis, identifiable by her bow and quiver, centered within an ornate Macedonian shield. On the reverse, a club is enclosed by a wreath and an inscription ascribing this coin to the first region of the Roman client state.
Two sides of a patinated silver coin feature high-relief details. On the left, is the head of Artemis in profile facing right, centered on a circular shield with patterned borders. On the right, a horizontal club is encircled by an oak wreath. Greek text above the club reads "ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ" and below it "ΠΡΩΤΗΣ". Small symbols and monograms are tucked between the club and the wreath's inner borders.
