About The Event

Join Djapo Cultural Arts Institute (opens in a new tab) for the 15th annual Juneteenth African Dance & Drum Fest. Djapo is a Wolof word meaning “come together,” and the organization’s mission is to engage the community in the preservation and understanding of African diasporic works in music, dance, history, and folklore through research, dialogue, community-building initiatives, international travel, and theatrical performance in order to foster collective learning and growth.

Learn the art of making a box drum and traditional African drumming with experienced artists at the Community Arts Center. This drum workshop is one of many programs for the festival. View and purchase tickets for additional programs directly from Djapo Cultural Arts Institute.

Djapo es una palabra wolof que significa “reunirse” y la misión de la organización es involucrar a la comunidad en la preservación y comprensión de las obras de la diáspora africana en la música, la danza, la historia y el folclore a través de la investigación, el diálogo, las iniciativas de construcción comunitaria, los viajes internacionales y la representación teatral con el fin de fomentar el aprendizaje y el crecimiento colectivos.
