About The Event
Join Djapo Cultural Arts Institute for the 15th annual Juneteenth African Dance & Drum Fest. Djapo is a Wolof word meaning “come together,” and the organization’s mission is to engage the community in the preservation and understanding of African diasporic works in music, dance, history, and folklore through research, dialogue, community- building initiatives, international travel, and theatrical performance in order to foster collective learning and growth.
Listen to a panel discussion of community leaders and artists moderated by Dr. Katrina Hazzard-Donald at the Community Arts Center. Dr. Hazzard-Donald is known as one of the nation’s leading African American dance and culture researchers. This discussion panel is one of many programs for the festival.
