Description

Frank Duveneck loved Venice and spent several months there during the early decades of his career. Titled The Venetian Girl, this painting depicts a young woman—likely an artist’s model—who holds a shallow brass bowl containing lemons and grapes.
A vertically oriented oil painting with visible brushwork depicts a girl with light skin tone and long, dark hair under a small red cap. Facing us, she wears a cream-colored blouse with voluminous sleeves, a dark vest, and a red beaded necklace. She holds a wide, dark bowl containing yellow fruit at her waist. Light from our left illuminates her face and white sleeves against a textured, dark brown background.
