An oil painting depicts a sprawling landscape cast in shadow beneath a sky of heavy gray and white clouds. In the lower third, tiny figures rest near a rocky outcrop on the right or walk along a grassy slope. A dark, wooded valley stretches across the middle ground toward a hazy mountain. In the upper half, sunlight breaks through to illuminate a massive white cloud centered above the distant peak.
