Did You Know?

This textile may be a fragment from the sleeves of a baro-camisa garment.

Description

This rectangular textile is composed of a fine, translucent ground fabric with a scattered pattern of small embroidered floral sprigs. Along the lower edge is a continuous band of oval medallions framed by embroidered scrolling elements, each enclosing a central floral motif executed in calado or another openwork technique. Vertical floral panels separate the medallions, and the edge terminates in a scalloped openwork border.
A horizontal fragment of translucent tan piña cloth features ecru embroidery. A grid of small flowers covers the field. A wide border along the bottom displays seven circular wreaths enclosing diamond-shaped floral clusters, connected by scrolling vines and small circular motifs. The bottom edge finishes in an embroidered scalloped pattern of points and loops. The delicate textile shows signs of age, with frayed and torn edges at the top and sides.
