Description

This is a fragment from an horizontal band that was woven to be applied as a decoration to a garment. It has diamond compartments containing floral, geometric, and animal motifs.
A fragmented wool and linen tapestry weave features a red ground detailed with white scrolling lattice lines forming circular and diamond-shaped medallions. Inside, stylized animals and floral motifs emerge in green, yellow, and black. A central circular medallion displays a four-legged animal beneath leafy stems, while another compartment to the left contains a figure framed by green foliage. Frayed edges reveal the coarse texture of the underlying woven fabric.
