Both the handmaiden and the vizier have been overpainted and repositioned.

Description

The deceitful handmaiden addresses the king, who sits against a golden floral backdrop. She appeals for the sixth time to have the young prince executed. In the lower register, the prince kneels with his hands bound, awaiting execution. The king’s vizier, dressed in orange, once again stalls the execution.
A vertically oriented tempera painting depicts two scenes in horizontal panels above five lines of Persian text. In the top panel, a woman and kneeling man in orange face two figures in a floral interior. Below, a man with bound hands kneels in a pink landscape, approached by two men with swords and a blue shield. A patterned floral border runs across the top of the entire composition on a beige page.
