A horizontally oriented oil painting depicts a landscape where a golden-yellow wheat field in the lower half is cast in light beneath heavy, dark gray clouds. In the foreground, four figures stand or bend among the grain. Beyond the field, a ridge and small buildings are cast in shadow by trees flanking the horizon. Fuzzy brushstrokes and swishes of paint blend the stormy sky into the land, creating a moody atmosphere.
