Description

The Sumida River was a popular refuge from the heat and humidity of the city during the summer. One can see the torii gate of Mimeguri Shrine just to the left of the woman's fan.
A hanging scroll depicts a woman with light skin tone and dark hair standing on a white boat. She wears a blue, floral-patterned kimono with a red lining and holds an open white fan near her face. To the right, a weathered wooden post rises from the river. Against a beige background, a distant shore with green trees sits across the water. A signature and red seal appear in the lower right corner.
