Did You Know?

O'Keeffe displayed this painting above her living room couch before bequeathing it to the museum.

Description

Among O'Keeffe's most admired works are her close-up images of flowers whose compositions border on abstraction. In this example, a large image of a white pansy is juxtaposed against much smaller blossoms of light blue forget-me-nots.
A vertically oriented oil painting depicts a large white pansy, its broad petals filling the canvas in overlapping, arcing forms of pale gray and lavender. At the center, a bright yellow heart pulses, soft ripples seeping into the surrounding white. Sprigs of blue forget-me-nots with yellow centers cluster at the top and bottom corners. A slender green stem descends against a misty background of hazy blue and muted gray.
