Description

This print emulates a traditional chiaroscuro drawing: dark outlines and shadows with white highlights on specially toned paper. In this later edition of the print, Bonnet modified the bed sheet so it discreetly lies across the woman’s thigh. The earlier version on display nearby, printed in red ink, is less modest.
A vertically oriented etching in black and white ink on blue paper depicts two people with light skin tones. On a bed, a woman sits facing our right with her torso partially uncovered. Behind her, another person peers through heavy curtains. A small creature sits on the floor in the lower right corner. Below the scene, a coat of arms rests between blocks of French text, all within a layered border.
