Description

In this fragment, the negative space (the background) is worked in red thread, leaving the positive space (the twining tendrils) the original neutral bleached linen color.
A horizontally long linen needle lace band features stylized floral patterns in cream against a dark red mesh ground. A central, angular vine with leaves and flowers winds across the middle. Narrow horizontal borders at the top and bottom contain rows of small, repeating plant shapes. Small, pointed lace loops in alternating red and cream finish the upper and lower edges. The rectangular fragment is frayed and uneven on the right.
