Description

In this monumental image of Christ, Georges Rouault created both a sacred image and the representation of a mortal human being. In reaction to an increasingly materialistic, secular society, Rouault created deeply religious art based on his Catholic faith. His early experience as an apprentice in a stained glass workshop influenced his use of black outlines and rich colors.
