Mexican muralists such as Siqueiros were concerned with racial inequality, and they were unwilling to compromise their beliefs in their artworks. An artists’ manifesto signed by Siqueiros reads, “What is a revolutionary artist in Mexico? One who, by taking an active part in the people's struggle for their rights, puts his art at the service of this movement.”
