Description

As the title of this album suggests, Tsubaki Chinzan painted each of the landscapes included in the album after interpretations of the styles of old masters by Chinese painter Zhai Dakun (翟大坤, active 1730–1804). In addition to the painted compositions, he also copied the inscriptions on Zhai Dakun's paintings.
A vertical landscape on silk depicts craggy gray cliffs rising behind clusters of trees with dark green foliage and reddish daubs. Spindly trees with brown trunks stand near a thatched pavilion on a flat bank. A wide body of water holds a boat, with pale blue mountains and black dashes of vegetation in the distance. Black calligraphy accents the upper right light tan sky, while a gate and red seal mark the lower left.
