Description

Borowiec, who has been teaching photography at the University of Akron since the mid 1980s, has often turned his attention to the residential, commercial, and industrial landscapes of Ohio. This image belongs to a series of more than 40 commissioned works interpreting the Cleveland Flats, as well as the nearby neighborhoods of Tremont, Ohio City, and Slavic Village.
A horizontally oriented print in black ink with fine lines depicts a residential backyard. A tall basketball hoop stands centrally over a concrete patio. To the right, horizontal lines texture a house with a porch where a small figure sits. On the left, a puffy, flowering tree grows near a grill. Grainy marks define the foreground grass and sapling. Rooftops and gables rise in the background against a pale, clear sky.
