Description

Manga Dreams captures an Asian street culture in which youths make themselves look like characters in Japanese manga (comics and graphic novels) and anime (animated films). Anderson & Low combined studio portraiture with digital postproduction in Photoshop to allow these individuals to be seen inhabiting the fictional worlds they adore. In these images, art imitates life, while life imitates art.
A color photograph depicts a woman with light skin tone facing us, holding a metal sword horizontally with both hands. The blade features an engraved dragon and gold guard. She wears a textured, mauve robe with a white collar. Her dark hair has reddish-brown highlights and sharp spikes extending to our left. She looks out at us with her lips pressed together, set against a dark gray background.
