Description

Alfredo Vargas Escalante was a textile worker until the factory went bankrupt. He utilized his severance package and modest savings to purchase this small key duplicating stand. The artist wanted workers like Escalante, who serve the tourists and wealthy Lima residents of the upscale Miraflores area, to be seen as individuals, so he handwrote their life stories around their portraits.
