Since its launch as Gallery One in 2012, ArtLens has continually evolved at the intersection of art, technology, and visitor experience. Explore the ideas, interactives, and innovations behind each iteration, from the original Gallery One to today’s ArtLens Reimagined, and discover how each chapter has shaped the museum’s ongoing effort to make art more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for everyone.

Gallery One (December 2012–June 2017)

ArtLens originally launched as Gallery One and was the first iteration of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s groundbreaking space blended art, technology, and interpretation to inspire visitors to explore the museum’s permanent collection.

      Reinstallation of ArtLens Gallery (June 2019)

      This reinstallation reopened with 21 new artworks from across the collection, and incorporates 3D projected models that can be zoomed and manipulated to see all angles of an artwork. Visitors can explore objects in the CMA’s collection like never before — rotating them digitally to see the tops, bottoms, and interiors.

      The ArtLens Gallery is located on Level One of the museum. Enter either by going through the museum's main entrance and turning left, or from the Ames Family Atrium.
