Arms never made a print copying this entire drawing; he only used three of the marginal motifs for etchings. His interest in executing picturesque scenes of old European towns was stimulated by etchers he admired including Ernest D. Roth, Charles Meryon, Donald Shaw MacLaughlan, and James McNeill Whistler, all of whom produced similar subjects.
