Description

American aviator Charles Lindbergh became a worldwide hero when he made the first solo transatlantic flight in 1927, the year this picture was taken. A magazine wanted to publish a picture bust-length picture of Lindbergh but had only a group shot on hand. To direct the printers what to shoot, they X-ed out his wife with white paint and indicated the crop marks around Lindbergh with black crayon. The numerous creases and tears are the result of its being pulled in and out of files and stored haphazardly for decades.
